Abstract
‘Online Preferences for Medical Appointment Booking’ that is system that helps patients for booking an appointment time based on their preferences. This system is developed in order to upgrade the existing system that already have for Unisza Medical Centre (UMC). The current system does not put the patient’s preferences in order to make an appointment. For example, that is the gender of the specialist. Definitely, the patient needs to be comfortable wherever they were medicated by the specialist and choosing the gender of the specialist is one of the ways to make the patient more comfortable. Furthermore, this system will be used by the user that consist the admin, specialists and also the patient that include the Unisza’s members and locals. The users need to log in first before enter and using the facilities in the system. For those who don’t have the account yet, they need to register first. Besides that, the admin will manage all the things that related to the system, while the specialist will specify the appointment time. The objective of this system is to study the existing medical appointment system among hospitals and also the Unisza Medical Centre (UMC) and to make an efficient system for the users as planned.

Introduction
Nowadays, the practice of booking an appointment online has grown in popularity over the past few years. It does not matter whether it is inside or outside Malaysia. Therefore this project is proposed to develop a system for booking a medical appointment based on patient personal preferences. It is a web-based system that would help to make an appointment setting process more smooth and consistent. This system would be a great tool especially to implement in Unisza Medical Centre (UMC).
The proposed system would be enable patient to perform booking online based on their personal preferences such as requesting a male or female doctor. The system would be able to suggest a specialist to the patient based on his problems. To more details, for example, if the patient has knee problems, the system would appoint him to a radiologist. If the patient has the problem regarding the women’s problem issues, they will appoint her to the gynecologist. The system will also be able to tell and notify the patient if the doctor requested is unavailable. This system will provide patient with a better experience, different with the previous practice as it is easy to use and make booking appointments easier. For this proposed system, the techniques or added value that will apply is Rule-Based techniques. It is if-then statement and the knowledge is stored as rules of the form, where If<condition> Then<action>. |
OBJECTIVES
( 1 )
To propose and develop a system that can improve more about a medical appointment booking system.
|
( 2 )
To design a system that can recommended the result for the appointment based on the patient’s preferences.
|
( 3 )
To test the system functionality and the applicability of the rule based technique that will applied to the system

METHODOLOGY
fRAMEWORK |
|
A framework is a real or conceptual structure intended to serve as a support or guide for the building of something that expands the structure into something useful. The figure shows the framework of the Online Preferences of Medical Appointment Booking system. The three users which are patient, admin and specialist are needed to login before will able to use the system. But for the patient, they need to register first before they want to login as patient and make an appointment. The patient enters the criteria and goes to inference engine, and then it compares the rules that stored in the knowledge based with the facts contained in the database. So when the IF (condition) part is satisfied and match with the facts in the database, the ruled is fired and the THEN (action) will executed.

The rules in the rule-based techniques can represent relations, recommendations, directives, strategies and heuristics. In this proposed system, this rule-based technique will apply for recommend a specialist based on what are the patient’s preferences. The example to make it clearer, the ‘IF’ is act as condition while the ‘THEN’ is action.

Rule Based Technique |
|
Rule-based technique is a technique that used in AI (Artificial Intelligence) programming and systems. Rule-based also known as expert system where capture the knowledge of a human expert in a specialized field and represent it within a software system. The knowledge of this rule-based is stored as rules of the form.
